Pittsburgh Pirates (57-50) at Arizona Diamondbacks
@ Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
Following a 2-1 series win against the San Francisco Giants the Pirates get set to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in a four game series. Arizona sits in 4th place in the NL West and pose no threat to anyone. The Pirates currently sit in 2nd place in the NL Central. A half game ahead of the Cardinals. They are a half game out of the 2nd spot in the NL Wild Card.
Game 1: Locke (2-2, 3.54 ERA) vs. Collmenter (8-5, 4.03 ERA)
Game 2: Volquez (8-7, 3.87 ERA) vs. Nuno (0-2, 3.47 ERA)
Game 3: Worley (4-1, 2.54 ERA) vs. Anderson (6-4, 3.34 ERA)
Game 4: Liriano (3-7, 3.97 ERA) vs. Cahill (1-8, 5.59 ERA)
The DBacks are led in every major batting category by Paul Goldschmidt, it would be smart to pitch around that guy.
He leads the team in AVG, HR, H, RBI and OBP. Batting .301 with 19 HR, 69 RBI, 121 H and an OBP of .396
Collmenter is their current ace on the hill. But Trevor Cahill remains to be a promising young arm.
Collmenter has 8 wins on the year with a 4.03 ERA. Wade Miley leads the team in K's with 132 and Addison Reed has 26 saves on the year.
The Pirates are led in every major batting category by the reigning NL MVP Andrew McCutchen.
Cutch is batting .306 with 17 HR, 63 RBI, 122 H and an OBP of .406
On the mound no one pitcher has stuck out in the current rotation. All of the Pirates arms are coming around as of late.
Edinson Volquez leads the team in wins 8. While Charlie Morton is a top ERA and K's with a 3.54 ERA and 108 Ks. Mark Melancon has 20 saves on the year.
STAT to think about...
Josh Harrison has homered in 4 straight games and is now batting .326 on the road this year
The Pirates however continue to bat a staggering .238 on the road.
Pirates take 3 of 4 from a depleted Diamondbacks team. Big series for the Pirates, chance to pad the road trip and continue to move up the standings in the National League. A similar situation as the Colorado series, hopefully Pirates take care of this one
