Detroit Tigers (63-52) at Pittsburgh Pirates (62-55)
@ PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA
The Pirates enter this home-and-home with the Tigers in third place in the NL Central, 2.5 games back of the first place Brewers. As of now, the Bucs still have an NL Wild Card spot locked up. The tigers come in to the series sitting atop the AL Central, just a half game ahead of the surging Royals. It'll be two games here at home against the Tigers, Monday and Tuesday. Then, the Bucs head to Detroit to cap off these four games with two at Comerica Park.
Game 1: Jeff Locke (3-3, 3.78) vs. Justin Verlander (10-10, 4.57)
Game 2: Edinson Volquez (9-7,3.70) vs. TBD
You know what you're going to get from the Tigers rotation, its stacked. Luckily, the Pirates won't have to face David Price. Not only is he David Price but the Bucs can't even sniff out quality at bats against a LHP. So that makes the matchup a bit more favorable. Also, tonight the Pirates see a Justin Verlander who hasn't been himself and has struggled lately.
The Tigers pitching is going to be too much for the Pirates to handle. A struggling offense for the Bucs isn't gonna be able to get the pen like they need to.
The Pirates drop both games to the Tigers at home, 0-2. Jeff Locke gets scrambled early. Edinson Volquez will be good but get no help.
I hope I'm wrong but the product you have been seeing on the field isn't good. Hard to have faith in this team when it looks the way it does. But hey...they could steal a couple here from the Tigers which would be huge!
First pitch 7:05, gonna be a nice evening for a game on the North Shore.
